We took a long drive y=
\nesterday to enjoy the scenery and look at fall leaf colors. At this lat=
\nitude, the change of the coloring in a stand of trees is absolutely brea=
\nthtaking. My wife and I enjoy long drives, a chance to be together and =
\ntalk, and to just enjoy looking at God's beautiful creation.
\norn and most of it all harvested by now. We did see some late farm work=
\n in progress, such as applying lime on the fields to prepare the soil fo=
\nr next year. And we did pass by a few cattle or dairy farms. Most of t=
\nhe crop land is fairly flat, with only smooth rolling hills. A meter or=
\n two, or maybe up to five meters, difference over the run of 3-5 km is f=
\nairly typical.<\/p>\n
But if you drive far enough and know the right p=
\nlaces to go, there are hills and curvy highways. We drove through Shelb=
\ny County and on to Columbus, Indiana and associated Brown County. Those=
\n who know the area will agree there is quite a bit of forest there an of=
\n course, trees dressed in all their autumn colors. We made it to the In=
\ndiana University main campus in Bloomington, Indiana and we got out of t=
\nhe car and strolled around campus for close to an hour. It was good exe=
\nrcise and stretched our legs after being sitting for so long. It was al=
\nso a good way to work of the lunch.<\/p>\n
We enjoyed a really fine Me=
\nxican lunch at a restaurant we had found in Shelbyville. It's calle=
\nd El Meson<\/i> and if you enjoy Mexican cuisine as much as we do, I w=
\nould highly recommend it. After walking off lunch at the IU campus, we =
\nmade our way back through Brown, Morgan and Johnston Counties, and accid=
\nentally bumped into the city of Indianapolis. Driving in city traffic is=
\n not as much fun and we intended to miss the metropolitan area by passin=
\ng south and east of it, but we turned north and drove right into the eas=
\ntern outskirts.<\/p>\n
Ah, well, each to his own. As my wife remarked=
\n, it's not everyone who would drive 300 miles (500 km) in a day just=
\n for leisure. I suspect friends in Europe and Asia might consider such =
\nbehavior lunacy.
