He served in Revolutionary War from enlistment in fall of 1775. After the war Leonard Cupp moved with his family to Berkeley County, Virginia, then moved to Bedford County, Pennsylvania & about 1803 moved to Monongalia County, Virginia [Cupp1], or from Frederick County, Maryland (considerably prior to 1800[Lovett, Morton]), and settled in the Craborchard, Preston County, Virginia. In any case, they were living in Preston County by the time he applied for Revolutionary War pension benefits Jan. 15, 1833.
Leonard Cupp and Peter Cupp seem to be sometimes confused. [Lovett, Morton] have Peter; [Cupp1] has Leonard; each report only scarce details. However, many factors from these accounts match. All of the children given by [Cupp1] and [Morton] match [Lovett], plus the detail that Leonard Jr. served as a Captain in the War of 1812 is given by all three. The dates given for their childrens births (no one list is complete) match closely. Note that [Cupp1] has Leonard living for a time in Bedford County, Pennsylvania; Somerset County was formed out of the western part of Bedford County in 1795. All three accounts end with Leonard settling in Preston County, Virginia (now West Virginia); a Peter Cupp died in Somerset County [Somerset]. [Lovett, Morton] have the birth year as 1750. Other differences are: [Lovett] lists more children than the other two; [Cupp1] gives the married name of one daughter, and given name of Leonards wife. [Morton] gives a different married name for this daughter (she may have remarried), plus a married name for the other daughter. We may never know for certain, but one possible guess is that Peter and Leonard were brothers, and that some sources have confused their two sets of children.

"I believe that brothers Robert and Edward emigrated to Dearborn County; Edward m. his first cousin, once removed, Ann Elizabeth Ewbank (b. Dec. 11, 1818; d. 1893) on March 22, 1836 in Dearborn County, Indiana." [Eubank]
Shortly after John Ewbank settled on Tanners Creek, his nephew, Edward Ewbank followed him and started work as a wagon maker at Cambridge, about three miles down the Creek from his uncle. Afterwards he removed to a house adjoining the stone church, on lands out of the farm of Thomas, and married his second cousin, daughter of his cousin Thomas. He played and joked with several generations of children, being Uncle Neddy to all of the Ewbank children and most of their playmates. He removed in old age to Port William, Ohio, here many of his descendants still live. [Ewbank5]
