He had been named a judge for Bedford County in 1778. While he was away during the Revolutionary War, an immigrant hired to tend his farm murdered his first wife and burned the cabin down with her body and an infant child. Two young sons survived. Captain Tissue and Huldah settled in Lower Turkeyfoot Township.

The family tree: Our family came to the new world from an area called Alsace-Lorraine. Alsace-Lorraine is a region in northeastern France on the French-German border. Switzerland lies to the south and Luxembourg to the north. Alsace-Lorraine was often a prize in wars between France and Germany.
It is believed that the port of entry for the Winpigler family was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the mid 18th Century. The first recorded information regarding a Winpigler family member is in Oley Township, Berks County, Reading, Pennsylvania in 1754. George Winbigler was found to be married and living in Oley Township between the years of 1754 and 1765 (from the tax index of Berks County). Another head of household, Christopher Winbigler was also found in Reading, Pennsylvania between 1760-1785 [Winpigler].
[Roll] reports finding the names spelled Shook, Shoup, Shuk, Shuck and Schuck; and Winpigler, Winbegler, Winbigler, Windpigler, Winepegler, Winbiegler, Windpeigler, Winpiegler, Winpeagler and Windbugler.
He moved to Frederick, Maryland in 1770 where he rented a portion of the limestone Carroll Manor, built by Charles Carroll of Carrollton around 1766.
