The story is told that Elijah had left the boy, Elijah Jorden (later named Elijah Jorden Shook) in Virginia with his mother. After Susannah Jordon married, word came that her husband was mistreating the boy. Elijah went Virginia, and brought the boy back to Ohio. (This story was told to Zelda Shook Buckner from her grandfather, Silas Shook, son of Elijah J. Shook. [On the death certificate of Elijah J. Shook it list his parents as Eliga Shook and E. Gerdon and his place of birth as Ohio. As there were several Elijah Shooks listed in Darke County, I am not certain that Elijah J. Shook. is the son of Elijah Shook & Jane Jordon. Michael O. Reck])
